A FORWARD HEAD POSTURE PUTS STRESS ON THE ENTIRE SPINE AND CAUSES MANY OF OUR PROBLEMS.

Muscles: hyoids and upper erectors.

Potential problems: senility, forgetfulness, stroke, carotid blockage (see this as another entry to vagal reset as the vagus descends through the carotid channel in the side of the neck).

Head to heaven gateway: Head in the clouds…crown chakra, occiput, and sphenoid bones

When the occiput, atlas, and axis get congested, partly due again to a head-forward posture, but also to unprocessed thought forms, a tension arises in the back of the neck as it meets the skull. How can we be part of something larger, of the universe, when we can’t find and maintain our connection to some sort of “higher power”? When the bones in the center and back of our head get jammed, we can’t think, we can’t reason, and we can’t function in the world as well as we’d like.

One of my mentors used to use the language of demons and entities in relation to this tension in the back of the neck; I chose to revise the language to “unprocessed thought forms.” Whether one thinks in terms of demons or not, something, some thought, chooses to reside in this area when we allow it to do so. Often that thought is as simple as “I’m not good enough, I don’t do enough. I must work harder and achieve more to get ahead.” Perhaps even more often these days, that thought is “I’m not sure I’m safe here and now.” If we pay attention and remove these thought forms regularly, we can keep a good head on our shoulders.

I often talk to clients, and students, of the idea that the general is the fellow who sits or stands on top of the hill and watches the overall picture of the battle or the war. He doesn’t usually get into any danger himself; he’s on top watching the unfoldment of the entire picture. The foot soldier, on the other hand, is on the front line, sticking his neck out, and is likely to get his head blown off. Which are you? Which clients do you see as foot soldiers in their own battle with life?
